Is there a subscription?
Not in the sense that word usually means. There is no card on file and nothing charges automatically. Basic and Pro are annual licenses that simply end on their date — we email you at 45, 14 and 1 days beforehand, and renewing is something you actively do. Pro Unlimited is bought once and owned indefinitely, with no end date at all.
What happens when an annual license expires?
Training stops. Everything else stays — your session history remains viewable and exportable, and your files are on your own machine regardless. Renew whenever you like and it picks straight back up.
What does it run on?
Windows 10 or later, with Bluetooth 4.0 or newer (Low Energy) — that is how the sensor connects. Most laptops made since 2014 have it; a desktop without it takes a USB Bluetooth 5.0 adapter, which costs a few dollars. macOS is not supported today. A small wireless amplifier loops onto an adjustable hat strap. A wire runs from the amplifier to a dry gold sensor, which sits inside the hat held in place by a magnet, and to an ear clip. Kits come with a small tube of skin-prep gel that can be used with the dry sensor for a better signal.
What does it actually measure?
Brainwave amplitudes in microvolts. The amplifier samples a thousand times a second; the numbers on screen are computed from a one-second window and refreshed ten times a second. What it reports: amplitude per rhythm, percent of time meeting your training criteria, and the ratio between rhythms — plain measurements of an electrical signal, not a score from an algorithm you cannot see.
Will it work with the Muse or headset I already own?
No, and that is deliberate. The product is built around a sensor you place where the training calls for, rather than one fixed at the forehead. Supporting fixed-position consumer headbands would mean giving up the one thing that makes it different.
Is there anyone who should not use ClearBrain?
A small number of people have seizures triggered by flashing lights or visual patterns, sometimes with no prior history, and childhood is when that most often first appears. ClearBrain’s visual feedback dims and clears your screen gradually over several seconds — a slow fade, never a strobe, flash or flicker — but it does change the brightness of what you are looking at, continuously, for the length of a session.
Anyone who has had a seizure or loss of awareness, has epilepsy or a family history of it, or has been told they are sensitive to light should talk to a physician before training, and train only if the physician approves. Stop immediately and seek medical advice if you or your child experiences dizziness, altered vision, eye or muscle twitching, loss of awareness, disorientation, involuntary movement or convulsions. The full
ClearBrain Safety Notice comes in every box and appears when the software first opens.
Is this a medical device?
No. ClearBrain is a general wellness product intended for relaxation, focus, and self-regulation training. It is not cleared or approved by the FDA. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition, and it is not a substitute for professional care.
What’s the difference between Basic and Pro?
Basic is the simple one. Pick a protocol, press start, and make it easier or harder if you need to. Unlimited training sessions for the year, for up to three user profiles. Nothing on screen you have to understand before you can use it.
Pro unlocks the complicated parts. Five protocols instead of three, choosing which rhythms to reward and which to hold down, setting the thresholds by hand, editing the bands themselves, tuning the artifact detectors, and three more live displays. Unlimited sessions and unlimited user profiles, also for the year.
Both review and replay any past session, and both show your trend across every session you have recorded.
Not sure which? Start with Basic. You can move up to Pro later and pay the difference — your license keeps its original expiry date rather than starting a fresh year.
Does the overlay get in the way of what I’m doing?
It is click-through, so mouse and keyboard go to whatever is underneath. You can run it windowed instead of fullscreen, and on a multi-monitor setup you choose which screen it covers.
Where does my session data go?
Into plain files on your own desktop, and nowhere else. No account, no cloud, no sync. Nothing goes through us.
Can my child use it?
Yes, with a parent or guardian supervising. Basic is the simpler product and a reasonable fit for supervised use. Because everything stays local with no account to create, no profile of your child is being built anywhere. A parent should set up and supervise every session. Please read ‘Is there anyone who should not use ClearBrain?’ above before a child trains.
How does the license key work?
Your key arrives by email after purchase. It binds to your
amplifier the first time one connects — not to your computer — so you can install ClearBrain on as many machines as you like and your license travels with the amp. Kit keys arrive already bound, so there is nothing to activate. On an annual license the expiry date is signed into the key itself. Verification is cryptographic and entirely offline — the app can check a key but never contacts a server, which is also why there is nothing that could auto-bill you. You can renew your license
here if it expires.
What if it isn’t for me?
Send the hardware back within 30 days of delivery, in resellable condition, and we refund it less shipping. A kit returned within 30 days is refunded in full, license included, less shipping. Software licenses bought on their own are refundable within 14 days of purchase. A refunded license is void.
That is for changing your mind. If something is actually broken, that is the warranty below and the condition it is in does not matter.
What if it breaks?
ClearBrain Limited Warranty. We warrant the amplifier against defects in materials and workmanship for 12 months from delivery, and the magnetic cable for 60 days. If either fails in normal use inside that window, write to support@clearbraintraining.com and we replace it free, including shipping both ways.
What it does not cover: drops, liquid, or misuse, damage caused by opening the amplifier — and battery capacity lost to storage at low charge. Lithium cells degrade when they sit flat, so if you are not training for a while, top the amplifier up every month or two. A battery that fails despite normal use and charging is covered.
The cable is a wear part; that is what the 60 days is measuring, and what the replacement cable is for. Fraying or a connector worn loose over months of handling is not a defect.
This is a Limited warranty. The full terms, including how to make a claim, are in section 8 of our Terms of Sale. It does not limit the implied warranties you have under state law.
